Students attending secondary school are best suited if they have studied some of the following subjects; maths, English, science, workshop and design technology, physics, graphics, chemistry or Level 1 and Level 2 industry unit standards.
Q. What school qualifications do I need to start a baking apprenticeship? A. Students attending secondary school are best suited if they have studied some of the following subjects; Level 2 science, food technology, maths and English.
Q. Do I need a training agreement or training contract to start on an apprenticeship? A. Yes; Apprentices are signed into apprenticeship via a Competenz training agreement, which then forms part of the apprentice's employment contract.
Q. Will the qualifications be recognized internationally? A. The Competenz qualifications are nationally accredited by NZQA which promotes international recognition.

Q. What is a modern apprenticeship programme? A. A modern apprenticeship programme (MAP) is designed to provide additional support and mentoring for young apprentices aged 16 to 21. It is run and funded by Tertiary Education Commission for traineeships level 3 and above. The MAP Coordinator is responsible for the progress of the MAP and must visit every quarter.
Q. Do I need a training agreement or training contract to start on an apprenticeship? A. Yes; Apprentices are signed into apprenticeship via a Competenz training agreement, which then forms part of the apprentice's employment contract.
Q. How do I find out about a modern apprenticeship? Q. How do I get started in a modern apprenticeship programme? A. Employers don't always advertise positions as 'modern apprenticeships', so let them know at interviews that you want to be one. To get started you need to contact a modern apprenticeship coordinator for your region and industry sector, visit the modern apprenticeships website at http://www.modern-apprenticeships.govt.nz/ A MAC is also chartered to find positions for applicants as per the MAP Coordinators Manual 2003 written by TEC.
