Competenz has submitted a new Level 2 Manufacturing (Core Skills) qualification to NZQA for registration.

The qualification will incorporate core manufacturing skills and core principles of productivity (core principles of competitive manufacturing).

The key aim is to develop an entry-level qualification with integrated OSH units that is more transportable across the manufacturing industry as a whole.

To develop the qualification, Competenz Industry Manager's Shona Freeman and Sriyani Warusavithana consulted with ten ITOs and with customers in the manufacturing sector.

When everyone agreed on the proposed qual structure, Competenz developed it with any manufacturing enterprise in mind, and then began consulting with relevant customers.

Competenz Industry Leadership Manager Andrew Brownlee says he is extremely proud and impressed with the way his team developed the qualification.

"It's not just the quick turnaround time that has impressed; the real stand-out is the breadth of consultation points the team were able to successfully lead through the qual development process.

"Our team, and each of the ITOs we consulted with, took the proposed qualification to relevant customers and feedback was very positive and helped us progress this quickly.

"This new way forward for our team puts the expectations of our customers and stakeholders, like TEC, front-and-centre. It is a TEC requirement for all ITOs to actively engage with other ITOs, industry, and providers to deliver the best possible industry training service to our customers.
