Food industry guides qualification improvements

Print

The National Certificate in Food and Related Products Processing (FRPP) qualifications have been completely reviewed by Competenz in extensive consultation with the food industry. The changes align the qualifications more closely with the needs of industry, and more clearly define the training pathway from entry level workers through to team leaders within this sector.

One key change is the disestablishment of the Level 1 qualification. Entry level workers in the food industry now begin their on-job training with FRPP Level 2 and can continue through up to Level 4 once the employee obtains a leadership role in their workplace.

Other improvements to the FRPP qualifications include:

  • Optional units in workplace communications (literacy and numeracy) are now available at Level 2
  • Three new compulsory unit standards in basic food production, processing quality and communication skills have been developed for FRPP Level 2
  • Level 4 is now more industry-relevant and achievable for trainees (total credits required are reduced from 240 to 66 credits)
  • Better integration with Competitive Manufacturing qualifications at Levels 2, 3 and 4, and First Line Management at Level 4

Trainees signed into the current versions of FRPP will have until 2013 to complete their national certificate.

All new FRPP trainees will now be signed into the new versions of these qualifications. All companies with current FRPP trainees will also be notified of these changes by letter.
