Fabrication

The fabrication qualifications are designed to enable apprentices employed in the engineering-fabrication sector to gain recognition for their skills and knowledge.

The skills and knowledge covered by these qualifications includes cutting, shaping and joining of metals components to produce the assemblies and structures used in the fabrication industry.

The skills and knowledge recognised by these qualifications also includes:

• Engineering practices and technology

• Specialised fabrication and joining skills specific to the industry

• Supervision, business administration and management.

The National Certificate in Engineering - Fabriation (Level 4) has three distinct strands learners can choose from - Heavy Fabrication, Light Fabrication, or Steel Construction.

The Heavy Fabrication strand is intended for fabricators working with heavier gauge plate, sections, and pipes, to produce a wide variety of products including pressure vessels.

The Light Fabrication strand is for fabricators working with sheet metals and lighter gauge plate, sections, and pipes to produce a large variety of metal products.

The Steel Construction strand is specifically for fabricators who manufacture and install structural steel components for building and civil engineering projects.

The National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 5) - Engineering Fabrication Strand is intended for qualified Fabrication trades people looking to advance their technical, business, and overall leadership knowledge and skills in a supervisory role, or to gain a qualification at an advanced trade level.
