Module 1

  • Introduction to the new legislation 
  • Requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015
  • How to investigate incidents/accidents

Module 2

  • How to investigate, report and mange hazards
  • How to assess risks and ensure safe work practices
  • Fire and emergency warden duties

Module 3

  • How to identify and manage discomfort pain and injury (previously known as repetitive strain injury)
  • How to prevent back injuries

Module 4

  • How to identify and manage drug and alcohol issues in the workplace
  • Techniques to investigating and planning

National qualifications

The aims of the course leading to the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Safety) (Level 3) are to: Develop/ further develop common health and safety skills and knowledge required by all industries Enable current employees of various industry organisations to upskill/ validate their on job knowledge of workplace health and safety practices Provide various industries with workers who are well equipped to handle employer requirements to reduce the incidence of accidents and injury in the workplace.

This qualification is designed for all industries and has a flexible structure to meet different needs. It is intended that safety supervisors, co-ordinators or team leaders will be the main candidates for the qualification. The content assumes the candidate is a holder of the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Safety), Level 3, or has equivalent experience, and as such has a good grounding in safety specific practices within industry. The Compulsory and Elective A sections of the qualification focus on the practical management of occupational safety and health in the workplace, while the Elective B section allows candidates to select skills and knowledge relevant to their sector of industry.
