Countdown celebrates Trainees of the Year

Countdown supermarkets celebrated two Competenz apprentices at their annual Supplier Trade Show late last month, with the announcement of the Trainee of the Year award.

Bakery apprentice Tamate Eggers from Lower Hutt and butchery apprentice Jamie Hadfield from Nelson, were both within one point of each other on the night, with Tamate taking out the award winning Best Overall Trainee of the Year and Jamie winning Best Butchery Apprentice.

The awards look at performance through the apprentice training plan, business understanding, technical and practical skills, on-the-job performance and also involve a face-to-face interview with two of Countdown's senior Operations Managers.

Countdown currently has more than 100 team members enrolled in butchery and bakery training programmes and apprenticeships with Competenz. Tamate Eggers - Best Overall Trainee of the Year Jamie Hadfield - Best Butchery Apprentice
