Germicide

Gaming with germs Learning doesn’t have to be scary, or boring. That’s why new approaches to training and education are being explored, including gaming. Yes you heard correctly. Gaming has increasingly become more widespread as an interactive and fun way to engage people into learning. And Competenz has just launched its second game. Germicide, available in flash and soon as an app for iPhones and android, teaches players the basics of food safety in relation to the types of micro-organisms, or ‘bugs’, that can contaminate food. In the game players are required to pick the appropriate ‘weapon’ to eliminate the unwanted bugs, such as selecting a ‘fire gun’ (heat), to kill salmonella. While the game makes light of the baddie bugs, food safety is in fact a highly important issue in the food and beverage sector, and failure to handle foods safely can have dire consequences. That’s why ensuring staff have the correct training, skills and knowledge for their job is vital – and Germicide helps take the fear out of what can be a complex subject. The game is available free to all below. Enjoy! Click here to play Germicide for free
