It's time to take on an apprentice
Late in January, the Government announced a new scheme to “reboot apprenticeships.” “We are going to give the first 10,000 new apprentices who enrol after 1 April this year $1,000 towards their tools and off-job course costs, or $2,000 if they are in priority construction trades. The same amount will also be paid to their employers,” announced Minister Joyce. Under the scheme, apprentices in boiler making, welding, sheet metal working, diesel fitting, fitting and turning, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and fabrication and their companies will qualify for the priority trade payment. Details of how the scheme will be administered have yet to be announced and we understand the start date may be brought forward so if you are thinking of taking on an apprentice, call us on 0800 526 1800 to learn more.
