Competenz congratulates all forestry learners in our Otago and Southland regions who recently graduated at the Southern Wood Council awards held in Balclutha on Friday the 23rd of May.

It was a very successful evening with well over 100 guests in attendance and 50 trainees/apprentices collecting 108 certificates. The event was fortunate to have the Hon Michael Woodhouse (Minister of Immigration) in attendance to present awards to our graduates and apprentice of the year winner. Congratulations to all graduates.

Special congratulations to Bill Biggar from Cable Logging Geraldine Limited who won the Apprentice of the Year for the Southern Wood Council region (pictured with Competenz's local forestry Account Manager, Phil Williams and Hon Michael Woodhouse).

Phil Williams, Competenz's regional forestry account manager for Otago and Southland was full of praise for the winner. “Bill was a standout winner of the Southern Wood Council Apprentice of the year due to his absolute passion for the job. His willingness to take on new tasks and seek out knowledge from those around him saw him gain his qualifications , and become a valuable member of the crew. All his references spoke of his thirst for knowledge. He will go a long way in this industry”

We would also like to acknowledge the Apprentice of the Year runners up Rikki Fallow of McHoull Contracting Ltd (Dunedin) and Nathan McLean of Otautau Contractors.

A big thank you to Daryl Perkins, South Island Regional Manager for Stihl and John Taal from The Stihl Shop, Milton for providing the Apprentice of the Year Prizes.
