About the Opportunity

Mō Te Huarahi  

This opportunity will see you learn from experienced Trades people and learning within a technical field of Hydraulics means that every day will bring added challenges and variety.

The team at Fluid & General are all willing to help you develop into great engineers.

You will be assisting qualified Tradespeople and learning the basics (if you don’t have a pre-trade qualification)and working with skilled team members to accomplish tasks.

Then move onto working solo with the guidance of Trades people, including using all types of engineering machinery such as, lathes, mills, welders, grinders and test machinery.


About You          


Fluid & General are looking for an apprentice who is keen to learn and keen to grow within the industry.

You will also need –

  • Pre-trade would be an advantage but not essential
  • The right attitude and a great work ethic
  • To be a team player
  • Happy to work at heights (training will be provided)
  • A good level of physical fitness
  • Able to manage your own time
  • A reliable way to get to work on time every day
  • Drivers Licence - Restricted at minimum – to be able to drive company vehicles 

Fluid & General work with many large companies and therefore regular drug and alcohol testing is required to be undertaken both at their place of work and/or onsite.



Ngā Hāora  

Hours will be discussed with you at interview stage. Standard Hours are Monday to Friday - 8am to 5pm



Te Tohu  

New Zealand Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Trade) (Level4) with strands in Fitting and Machining, and Maintenance Engineering

Graduates of the Fitting and Machining strand will also be able to:

  • Build and install complex machines where the use of fitting, machining, assembly, and precision alignment skills are required.
  • Graduates of the Maintenance Engineering strand will also be able to:
  • Apply knowledge of current and appropriate maintenance engineering techniques, technologies, strategies, and practices for their industry to monitor, inspect, maintain and repair facilities or plant and equipment ensuring reliability.
  • Read and interpret complex drawings and schematics to identify and remedy faults, and to contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement.
