About the Opportunity

If you are looking to join a close knit, friendly, motivated, multi-cultural team with more than 20 years experience in the export and timber industries and a business that invests in its people, then this could be the apprenticeship role for you.

There’s lots of variety on offer, you’ll get to learn how the business runs overall, and once initial training has taken place you will be responsible for running the planer. There is a full-time trainer on hand to cross train how to operate all the machines. This represents a great opportunity for someone willing to get their teeth into learning and take responsibility.

There is the potential for a weekly production bonus and a monthly staff lunch. Accommodation on site is available as an option during the week if required (not at weekends). PTP Group focus is on providing the opportunity to learn and getting the right people into the business. They are therefore  looking for candidates for this apprenticeship role with great attitude and approach to work.

About You

Mōu

You’ll also need:

  • NCEA Level 2 in English and Maths
  • Some workshop and general machinery experience would be beneficial
  • Comfortable to work in a saw mill environment
  • Health & Safety awareness
  • Keen and quick to learn
  • Willing to take responsibility
  • Great attitude, work ethic, reliability and drive to succeed

Hours

Ngā Hāora  

The hours will be discussed with you at interview. Standard Hours are Monday to Thursday 6.30am to 5pm.

The site is closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for maintenance, cleaning and repairs. There is the option to work on Friday and Saturday and join the cleaning crew.

Qualification

Te Tohu  

New Zealand Certificate in Timber Machining (Level 4)

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

  • Apply knowledge of mechanical engineering systems to a solid wood manufacturing operation.
  • Manufacture, grind and hone cutters in a timber machining operation.
  • Design profile cutter templates in preparation for profile grinding operations.
  • Develop profile, and grind and hone profile cutters in-head in preparation for machine set-up.
  • Interpret and apply specifications and knowledge to the operations and maintenance of timber machining equipment.
  • Set cutter head spindle positions and joint profile cutters.
  • Set up a timber planer for profile.
  • Maintain timber machining equipment and troubleshoot product defects.
