About the Company

Living Room is an upholstery workshop and showroom in Wellington. They are looking for a trainee upholsterer to join their vibrant and very busy team of craftspeople.

Some existing experience or an interest in domestic upholstery is important, as is enthusiasm to learn on the job.

About You

If you have a sense of humour and enjoy a wide variety of music and terrible banter, then all the better!  

You will also need:

• Practical-minded with technical problem-solving abilities
• Highly accurate with a strong eye for detail
• Able to work collaboratively in a workshop environment
• Reliable with effective time management
• Able to take direction and be receptive and responsive to feedback

Hours

Standard hours are Monday to Friday 7.30am to 4pm.

Qualification

New Zealand Certificate in Furniture - Upholstery - Level 4

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

  • Apply knowledge of hazard and risk management, quality requirements, and customer service to operate in a furniture manufacturing environment.
  • Implement specific aspects of operational management that impact on the profitability, process improvement, or productivity of a furniture making business. Graduates of the Cabinetmaking strand will also be able to:
  • Cost out cabinetmaking jobs.
  • Assemble a range of furniture components.
  • Set and operate machinery and equipment using advanced technical skills to manufacture components to meet customer and production requirements.

Graduates of the Upholstery strand will also be able to:

  • Cost out upholstery jobs.
  • Apply advanced technical knowledge of upholstery materials to upholster products to meet customer and production requirements.
  • Prepare for and upholster furniture.
