New Zealand Certificate in Maritime Operations

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the maritime industry with personnel who have the skills and knowledge required by relevant international conventions to manage coastal or off-shore vessel operations as skipper on a fishing vessel or master on a commercial vessel.

Graduates will meet the requirements of International Convention on Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping for Fishing Vessel Personnel (STCW-F) and Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).

This qualification is intended for experienced seafarers wishing to progress to command roles on fishing or commercial vessels.

Completion of this qualification is a prerequisite when applying for Maritime New Zealand Master <500 GT - Near Coastal or Skipper Fishing Vessel-Limited Certificates. Award of the Master <500 GT - Near Coastal or Skipper Fishing Vessel-Limited certificates by Maritime New Zealand may also require the completion of a logbook, oral exam and ancillary certificates.
