February 26, 2024

Competenz Te Pūkenga is pleased to publish our formal response to The Trainer and Assessor Landscape: Insights in forestry and wood processing report, January 2024, published by Food and Fibre Centre of Vocational Excellence.

As the industry training organisation responsible for forestry and wood processing, Competenz welcomes the report’s insights, while acknowledging its small research sample size.

We recognise the dedication and passion for the forestry and wood processing sectors of our trainers and assessors.

We are delighted to see the high value placed on work-based learning emphasised in the report.

We concur with the need for succession planning to ensure transfer of knowledge to future generations. The capacity, quality and succession of our trainer and assessor workforce is critical to the future success of the forestry and wood processing sectors.

We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with Food and Fibre CoVE and Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service for supporting the next generation of workers and leaders of the New Zealand forestry industry.
