The purpose of this qualification is to provide the forest industry with individuals who have the skills and knowledge required to be employed in a production role in a commercial forestry operation and contribute to the planning of operations. They will be able to make decisions in their area of specialisation.


Graduates will be able to operate mechanised plant and equipment safely and efficiently without supervision and maintain plant equipment while retaining productivity within the operation. The qualification includes two strands in mechanised land preparation and mechanised thinning which represent distinct activities within forestry operations.

This is an entry level qualification, designed for people already working in the industry or people wishing to enter the industry in an entry level role.

The food processing industry includes, but is not limited to: poultry, general food including: frozen products, milling, confectionery, edible oils and fats.

The beverage industry includes, but is not limited to: the production of fermented and unfermented beverages including fruit, and syrup based beverages.
