This qualification supports the Fire Protection and Building sectors by developing skilled inspectors of passive fire systems in both new and existing buildings.

Graduates will be able to work independently to verify that installations meet the requirements of the New Zealand Building Act, Building Code, and relevant regulations. These inspectors—such as Independent Qualified Persons (IQPs)—play a vital role in making sure systems are up to standard and compliant with Building Consents and Compliance Schedules.

Recently refreshed in collaboration with industry, this qualification now includes:

• Two strand options – Construction Monitoring or Routine Compliance Inspections

• Redeveloped learning resources

• Updated assessment materials.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the Fire Protection industry with inspectors who have the skills and knowledge to test and inspect active fire protection systems.

The qualification includes two strands - graduates will either specialise in inspection of fire detection and alarm systems; or inspection of fixed fire protection systems.

Graduates will work in accordance with the New Zealand Building Code, current Standards, regulations and ordinances, and other internationally accepted Standards.

The purpose of this entry-level qualification is to provide the Fire Protection industry with testers who have the skills and knowledge to test active fire protection systems (fire detection and alarm systems and fixed fire protection systems).

Graduates will work under limited supervision, and in accordance with the New Zealand Building Code, current Standards, regulations and ordinances, and other internationally accepted standards.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the Fire Protection industry with tradespeople/technicians with the skills and knowledge to plan, install, commission, maintain, and service fixed fire protection systems and associated equipment.

Graduates will work in accordance with the New Zealand Building Code, current Standards, regulations and ordinances, and other internationally accepted Standards.

The purpose of this entry-level qualification is to provide the Fire Protection industry with installers and fitters who have the skills and knowledge to install fixed fire protection systems hardware.

Graduates will work under limited supervision and in accordance with the New Zealand Building Code, current Standards, regulations and ordinances, and other internationally accepted standards.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the Fire Protection industry with tradespeople/technicians who have the skills and knowledge to design, install, commission, maintain, and service fire detection and alarm systems and associated equipment.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the energy and chemical industry with experienced people who have attained the operational skills and knowledge required to work as senior process or senior control room operators.

This qualification is suitable for experienced energy and chemical plant employees working as senior control room operators, or those wishing to enter the role in a range of energy and chemical plant contexts.

Graduates will be able to control the safe and efficient operation of an energy and chemical plant and carry out a range of complex operations in a self-managed capacity.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the energy and chemical plant industry with competent employees who have attained the operational skills and knowledge required to work as field operators.

This qualification is suitable for individuals working as field operators in an energy or chemical plant, or those wishing to enter the role.  The qualification provides a credential that will support career opportunities for graduates in a range of energy or chemical plant contexts.

Graduates would have established standards of professional performance for the safe and efficient operation of an energy or chemical plant under broad guidance, carrying out a range of routine and non-routine tasks.
