What do they do?

Plant bakers work in factories preparing and baking goods such as bread, biscuits, cakes and pastries. They use production machinery to safely and hygienically prepare large volumes of food products and may learn maintenance skills for minor repairs.

A typical day

Typically, an eight-hour day; starting early or shift work.

Plant bakers undertake training on specialist equipment to set up, control and shut down manufacturing procedures and ensure quality control. They also learn about the science of baking in large volumes.
